The Beanstack Winter Reading Challenge is back! Help us reach our community goal of reading 300,000 minutes.

Sign up for the 2023 Winter Reading Challenge: All the Feels on Beanstack and make your reading minutes count from Jan. 1 to Jan. 31.  Each badge earned and minute logged helps the Library District advance in the competition against libraries nationwide!

Participants also have the chance to win prizes, thanks to our sponsors at Spurrier's Gridiron Grille, Mi Apá Latin Café, and Okito America. Each badge earned is worth another entry in the weekly prize drawings to win a $10 gift card to Spurrier's. At the end of the challenge, one adult, teen, and youth reader will each win a $50 gift card from one of our three sponsors.

Braille Literacy Month
January is National Braille Literacy Month. Braille is a system of touch reading and writing developed to meet the needs of the blind and visually impaired. It uses a cell with six raised dots structured in patterns to represent letters of the alphabet, punctuation marks, and phrases to show letter groupings.

Did you know that the Alachua County Library District has a Braille collection? Our collection includes a braille primer, children’s books, and adult books written in braille. The adult braille and children's braille collections can be found in different areas at each library branch so please don’t hesitate to ask staff for assistance in locating your materials. We’re here to help!
