This May, we’re preparing special events for families, job seekers, and inquisitive minds, and you are invited to all of them!  

Summer at the Library is nearly here! Remember to register to track your summer reading for chances to win prizes. Celebrate Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month with books for all ages. The Community Job and Resource Fair is back for community members facing hurdles to entering the workforce. Patrons can get one-on-one computer help at branches all through the month of May. 

In addition to these events, our calendar is packed with programs at all branches. Register in advance online or call your preferred library location.

Get Ready for Summer

Summer at the Library is back on June 3! Starting May 20, register on Beanstack to track your reading and summer fun through July 31 for chances to win a tablet from PDQ Restaurant. 

Teens can also register for Battle of the Books starting Tuesday, May 2, and receive three free books for the annual trivia competition! This year's books are:

Celebrating Heritage

May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a month to celebrate AA and NHPI individuals and communities in the United States. 

AANHPI Heritage Month started in 1978 when Congress established Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week, which expanded in 1992 to the entire month of May. 

 

Explore the stories of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders this month with books and movies for adults, young adults, middle graders, and young children from our collection. Check out great stories in print from your favorite branch or enjoy them instantly with our digital and streaming services

 

Take a deeper dive and learn the basics of Hindi, Mandarin, Indonesian, Thai, and other languages using our Transparent Language online tool.

Meet Your New Boss

Mingle with local employers and community agencies at the Community Job and Resource Fair on Monday, May 15 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Headquarters Library. No need to register, just show up with your resume. In addition to employers looking for new talent, representatives from community resource providers will be ready to show you how to access training, benefits, and more. 

Businesses and community partners interested in tabling can sign up by May 10. Participation is free and includes parking, six-foot tables, chairs, and WiFi.

All branches will be closed for Memorial Day on Monday, May 29. Online services and book drops will remain open. All locations will resume current hours on Tuesday, May 30.
