Participate, connect, and discover with your library this September.

September 2023

Summer is nearly over—even if it doesn't feel like it—and the library fun keeps on rolling!

Teens can submit their artwork to participate in the Fall Teen Art Show. Connect your friends and family to the library during Library Card Sign-Up Month. Discover the magic with Year 7 of Millhopper School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Patrons can keep up to date on local and national news with our library databases, and families learning English can join us for a special weekend program, English for Families, throughout September.

Tell Your Friends!

Sign up for a library card in September and have two chances to be rewarded! At the end of September every branch of the Library District will have a drawing and one new patron per branch will receive an ACLD Swag Bag. In addition, one new patron will win a personalized READ poster! Visit your local branch and sign up today.

A library card gives you access to nearly 815,000 items, including more than 108,000 digital books, audiobooks, and magazines. You can also use your card to log into databases anywhere, check out toys, borrow a WiFi2Go mobile hotspot, and much more!

Practice Together

Join us for the "English for Families" program every Saturday in September at the Headquarters Library.

This multi-week series of interactive English classes for families focuses on developing vocabulary and literacy skills through story reading. Each class features a lesson centered around a children's book that participating families get to take home with them as well as a hands-on activity and/or game and refreshments.

These classes are ideal for families with children 6-12 years old, but all are welcome. We encourage families to commit to the full 5-week series. Registration is required.

Calling Teen Artists

Teen artists aged 12 to 15 are invited to show off their artistic side and submit their original artwork to our Fall Teen Art Show from September 1-30. Artists can submit up to three pieces of their own original works to any of our twelve branches. An online Entry Form must be completed before the artwork can be submitted.

All artwork will be displayed at the Headquarters Library in downtown Gainesville on October 14-15  from noon to 4 p.m. All are welcome to come and view the artwork as well as vote for their favorite piece. Along with Crowd Favorite, awards will be given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place, four Honorable Mentions, Best Logo, and four category winners.
