Dive into adventure in worlds of fantasy with your library! Teens can join games of Dungeons & Dragons or learn to play Magic the Gathering. 

Celebrate the birthday of the "father of modern fantasy," J. R. R. Tolkien, with a toast on J. R. R. Tolkien Day, Jan. 3, and by checking out one of his many written works from our vast collection.

Discover ArtSpace Programs

Discover our Waldo Branch's unique MakerSpace for creating art: ArtSpace. Waldo Branch hosts arts and crafts programs in its ArtSpace every Thursday and Saturday. 

This January, join us for ArtSpace: Zines to Honor Martin Luther King, Jr. on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 4 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m. at Waldo Branch. To honor MLK Day, we will make an 8-page zine as a stand-alone or to add to your visual journal.

Get Some Fresh Air

It's time to head outside for a walk! Take A Walk Outdoors Day is Jan. 20 and encourages people to get outdoors for some fresh air and sunshine. Alachua County has numerous open trails to enjoy, and we have books to inspire your next hike. 

Discover nature with Exploration Backpacks! The backpacks are filled with items to foster discovery in nature, including binoculars, a plant press, a butterfly net, a bug enclosure, a bug lens, a hand lens, a clipboard, a pocket microscope, and instructions in English and Spanish. Backpacks will also include The Nature of Florida: An Introduction to Familiar Plants, Animals & Natural Attractions field guide.

Digital Learning and Literacy

LinkedIn Learning is a leading online learning platform that helps patrons learn business, software, technology, and creative skills to achieve their goals with more than 16,000 courses. Library cardholders can access the video library of engaging, top-quality courses taught by recognized industry experts. 

Northstar Digital Literacy provides patrons with self-guided online modules that test one's ability to perform tasks based on digital literacy skills, including computer, internet, email, and social media basics. You can also learn Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Docs.
