Discover what's new at the library! The MakerSpace at Headquarters Library is officially open to help support digital and technological literacy. Save the date—the Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale opens for business on April 26. Creative teens and tweens can submit their works to our annual Teen Creative Writing Contest, and patrons can find resources for themselves and their families with a Community Resource Navigator. Don't forget to give your car some attention during National Car Care Month with ChiltonLibrary.  

MakerSpace is Open

The Alachua County Library District is excited to announce the new MakerSpace at Headquarters Library is open. This MakerSpace was created to help support our patrons' digital and technological literacy and provide access to new technologies for little to no cost. 
 
The space has 3D printers, a laser cutter, Cricut cutters, and sewing machines, including an industrial sewing machine that can handle heavy-duty fabrics. Laptops for coding activities and creating 3D models, button makers, paints, markers, colored pencils, large paper cutters, a large stapler, and various electronic hardware like Micro:Bit electronic kits, Arduinos, and Makey Makeys are available for public use.

The Sale Returns
The Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale returns on April 26!
 
Browse through more than 500,000 items for sale. Most items will range in price from $0.25 to $5. On the fifth and final day of the sale, all items will be $0.10. 
 
Check out the Collectors Corner, which includes first-edition books, signed works, and a large selection of Florida-related materials. Some items may be priced well over $100! The Collectors Corner is only open for the first four days of the event.
 
Profits from the sale support the Alachua County Library District and community literacy projects throughout the county.

Get Creative

Calling all teen and tween writers! Enter your creative works into the 2025 Teen Creative Writing Contest
 
Middle and high schoolers can submit up to three poems and a 500-1500 word short story for a chance to win honors and prizes. All submissions must be made by April 20 at 11:59 p.m. and accompany a completed entry form (Word or PDF) with a parent or legal guardian's signature.
 
All writing must be the original work of the entrant. Entrants must not use AI technology or Machine Learning to generate writing. For the full rules for entry, visit our website. For any questions or concerns, please contact us at ysref@aclib.us, or call at 352-334-3941

Community Resource Navigator

Do you need assistance determining the right community resources that can benefit you and your family? Meet with a Community Resource Navigator (CRN) at the library. 
 
CRNs can assist you through the process of finding and registering for assistance programs. CRNs will be at locations around the Library District ready to help each week: every Monday and Thursday at the Alachua Branch, every Tuesday at the High Springs Branch, and every Wednesday at the Newberry Branch.

Library Closures
All locations will be closed on Sunday, April 20, for Easter. Locations will resume current operating hours on Monday, April 21. 
 
Online services at www.aclib.us and book drop locations will remain open 24/7.
