Halloween Party

Halloween (All Hallows’ Eve) celebrated the day before All Saints’ Day (All Hallows’ Day) has its origins in the festival of Samhain. The Celts of ancient Britain and Ireland celebrated November 1st as the beginning of the winter. It was believed that the souls of all who had died returned to visit their homes. People wore masks to hide from the ghost thought to be present. This gave rise to associating witches, hobgoblins, fairies, and demons with the day. In the 8th century, All Saints’ Day was moved to November 1st to supplant the pagan holiday with a Christian one. In the United States, the religious holiday morphed into a secular one and Halloween became a holiday of trick or treat and harmless pranks. - www.britannica.com
